The results of our latest poll are in. We asked the following question: Do you still have the passion for working in radio?
Here are the results:
Yes, the fire is till burning. 38%
Somewhat, but I remember the good ol’ days fondly. 45%
No, but I’m too old to get another job. 7%
Radio is just a stepping stone in my career. 0%
I’d leave tomorrow if another offer came up. 10%
Of course this poll isn't scientific, but it's encouraging to see that the largest percentage of those responding still have some passion for radio. And only 10% would leave radio if they could find another job. I say “only 10%” because that number is way down since the last time we asked this exact same question in January 2003. At that time 22% responded “I’d leave tomorrow if another off came up.” Here are the 2003 results:
- Yes, the fire is still burning strong. 39%
- Somewhat, but I remember the good ol' days fondly. 24%
- No, but I'm too old to get another job. 5%
- Radio is just a stepping stone in my career. 10%
- I'd leave tomorrow if another offer came up. 22%
Notice that almost twice as many responded “Somewhat, but I remember the good ol’ days fondly” this time (45% vs 24% in 2003), while the percent remained about the same for “Yes, the fire is still burning strong” (38% in 2009 vs 39% in 2003).
Where 10% considered radio just a stepping stone in 2003, no one felt that way in 2009.
We’ll post our next “Radio Passion Poll” soon. Thanks to all who responded.
